Professor Ruane's Lecture explored how an increase in positive interface between researchers and policy makers in Ireland might be created so that independent research can contribute to providing more and better evidence to support policy making in Ireland. The need for such research is especially important at a time when increased openness and transparency in the policy process are being sought by all groups in society and when decision makers are faced with complex problems and tightening budgets.
