Trainee Communications Officer
The Royal Irish Academy (RIA) invites applications for a nine month full time internship under the Job Bridge Work Placement Programme. Details of the Job Bridge programme are available on www.jobbridge.ie. Subject to the terms of the Job Bridge scheme participants, who are in receipt of certain social welfare payments, will retain their current social welfare allowance plus an additional €50 per week top-up from the Department of Social Protection.
As Trainee Communications Officer, you will be able to make a real contribution to the Communications and Public Affairs department. This position is aimed at giving a PR professional starting out in their career with the necessary hands on experience in media relations, event management and social media.
Applicants must be registered with FAS in order to be eligible to apply for a placement. There is no remuneration payable in respect of the internship.
The intern will gain experience in:
- Organise high profile book launches, master-classes and public interviews etc
- Co-ordinate the establishment of a Ted Talks (www.ted.com) style website for Ireland
- Manage the Academy’s Twitter and Facebook presence
- Liaise with media on Academy events, publications and research projects
- Co-ordinate the preparation of the Academy’s Annual Review working with contributors, designers, and the editor.
- Draft and proof editorial content on Academy Website ensuring that it is accurate and up to date.
The successful candidate will:
- Be interested in pursuing a career in Public Relations, Public Affairs or Media
- Have good communication skills (oral and written)
- Have excellent interpersonal skills (outgoing and proactive)
- Have strong accuracy and attention to detail
- Be flexible
Qualifications required
- Third level degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
- Microsoft Office
