John Rocque’s Dublin: a guide to the Georgian city is an ancillary publication to the Irish Historic Towns Atlas. It reproduces forty extracts from John Rocque’s map, the Exact survey (1756). Each one is accompanied by a commentary and introductory essays by the authors put the Exact survey in context. The maps and commentaries consider Rocque’s work at the level of individual streets and buildings revealing particular elements of his cartography and aspects of the city’s history that are intended to enhance our appreciation of the Exact survey as a whole.
