Volume IV: Architects and Architecture, 1600-2000
Volume IV will provide a greatly expanded understanding of the architecture of our island over the last four centuries. The 600-page volume will incorporate more than 250 entries written by leading researchers and experts as well as the editorial team, organised in thematic chapters, each with an introductory essay. The volume will also offer extensive bibliographical and biographical indexes. The volume’s subject matter encompasses every scale and type of architecture. It seeks to expand and challenge traditional understandings of architecture by including the vernacular and the infrastructural within its purview. It will deal with architecture across the whole island, revealing points of confluence and of difference, making new comparisons and combinations possible. Overall this will be by far the most comprehensive survey of architecture in Ireland to be published in recent times.
