Volume V: The Twentieth Century
Volume V will cover the years between 1900 and 2000. It will map out the main issues, developments, and some of the principal artists who have contributed to the history of Irish art during this time. The volume will encompass a wide range of art media. The established fine art disciplines of painting and print-making will be well represented, but so also will stained glass, conceptual art, lens-based art (photography and video), digital art and other new art practices. An introductory essay will outline the scope of the volume and provide background material, setting the visual arts in Ireland in both a national and international context. Emphasis in the volume will be on information and critical assessment.
