Conspiracy:
Irish Political Trials
RTÉ Radio 1, Sundays at 6.00pm
Presented by Myles Dungan
Produced by Peter Mooney
Conspiracy: Irish Political Trials
is a four-part radio series which begins on 27th September
2009 at 6.00pm, and continues on consecutive Sundays
thereafter. Presented by Myles Dungan, the series
will focus on the clashes, confrontations and perjuries
that characterised notorious trials in Irish legal
& political history (1800-1922). Each trial shows
how the legal system was contaminated by a political
agenda and how that political agenda unwittingly incited
great moments of legal drama such as the disintegration
of the forger, Richard Pigott under the cross examination
of Sir Charles Russell at the Parnell Commission.
Read also about the trials of Robert Emmet, Daniel
O’Connell and the court martials after the Easter
Rising. The series is accompanied by a book of the
same name, written by Myles Dungan, which will be
published by the Royal Irish Academy in September
2009.

Produced in association with the Royal Irish
Academy. Broadcast on CNBC Worldwide and CNBC Europe, the series
explored the ingenuity of the Irish mind and whether it is possible
to identify a uniquely Irish perspective and contribution to
the processes of creativity and innovation. The series sought
to widen public understanding of Ireland’s creative and
innovative capacities beyond the typical characterisation of
Ireland as a land of novelists, poets and playwrights. The series
profiled world-class Irish engineers and scientists as well
as those academics who work in the humanities and social sciences.
