The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Bernice Harrison

The Irish Times

Bernice Harrison is a journalist and has worked on staff at The Irish Times for nearly two decades. In that time she has written for every section of the newspaper including the books, arts, business and home and design pages as well as the weekly magazine. Roles include writing and editing. She was the paper’s TV critic for six years, radio critic for three years, is a regular columnist on media matters and now contributes to the Opinion pages.  She writes the weekly Design Moment design column. She now works as part of the digital production team and her cross-platform engagement at the paper includes being an active contributor on the weekly Irish Times Women’s Podcast. She has worked in television (RTE) as a presenter and is a frequent contributor to radio programmes. Prior to joining The Irish Times she worked as an editor on women’s magazines and was a freelance journalist contributing to many newspapers and magazines. She is a graduate of UCD (BA Hons); DIT (Diploma in Advertising) and NCAD (MA Design History and Material Culture)
