This is the first in a series of six events themed around the constitution.
Constitutional Conversations is a series of six facilitated discussions on topics of wide constitutional interest that reflect a variety of current concerns and some new research agendas. They will be chaired by academics from universities across the whole island of Ireland from Schools of Law, Politics and Philosophy.
'Constitutions, referendums and the family' will take the form of a discussion on the recent changes to the conception of the family in Irish law due to recent constitutional amendments and legislative changes. Dr Fergus Ryan, Lecturer in Law at Maynooth University will provide an overview of the recent changes and their implications before opening the session up for a discussion. This discussion will be of interest to post-graduate students, academics, representatives of non-governmental organisations, politicians, members of the legal profession and the general public.
The Chatham House Rule will apply to this discussion forum.
Two bursaries to cover travel expenses up to a maxiMaynooth Universitym of €50.00 are available to post-graduate students from Irish universities. To make an application contact Dr Noelle Higgins, Maynooth University at noelle.higgins@nuim.ie.
