THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Creative women of Ireland: artists and writers from the archives

From little known artists to well-established writers, this exhibition turns the spotlight on creative women from the Academy’s archives. Having explored the worlds of nineteenth-century academy women in 2018, in 2019 we examined the lived experiences of families of sisters who influenced their times. It’s now the turn of creative women artists and writers.  From little known artists to well-established writers who gained fame in their lifetimes, all are recorded in the Academy’s archives and deserve 2020 focus! Explore the lives of Sophia Rosamond Praeger, Eileen Barnes, Mary Fitzpatrick, Mia Cranwill, Lady Morgan and Katharine Tynan.
