The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Lots to do and see this Culture Night at Academy House

Visit Academy House and its splendid library this Culture Night. View ‘Beranger’s Ireland’, an exhibition of original C18th watercolours by Dutch artist Gabriel Beranger c.1729-1817. Talks on the Academy and its Library collections will take place throughout the night from 5pm in our magnificent Meeting Room. Learn to write your name in Ogham script in the Library’s Reading Room and see Ireland's oldest manuscript, the Cathach. Discover the history of Irish towns with the Irish Historic Towns Atlas project and view their exhibition on Galway city. Talk to the editor of the Foclóir Stairiúil na Gaeilge and learn all about this important research project engaged in the production of an historical dictionary of Irish. Browse our pop-up bookshop to check out our exciting new publications, and talk to our staff about the Academy’s work.
