The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest Academic honour in Ireland.

Damien Owens

Engineers Ireland

Damien Owens, Chartered Engineer, is Registrar for Engineers Ireland. His  role involves ensuring the academic standard of engineering qualifications and adherence of membership criteria to best international standards, accreditation of Engineering 3rd level programmes .

Damien represents Engineers Ireland in international matters and sits on the European Monitoring Committee of FEANI and is Deputy Chair of the Dublin Accord (International Engineering Alliance). Previously as a member of Engineers Ireland Damien  has been chairman of the ICT Division, a member of the Executive Committee and was elected to serve on Council.

Damien previously worked as a telecommunications consultant in the telecommunications and IT industry. He has worked in a variety of areas and has extensive expertise in the area of strategic alliances and collaborative ventures. He has been a representative on standardisation bodies in Ireland (ETCI and NSAI) and overseas. He has also managed a consultancy providing specialist advice in the area of new product development.

Damien graduated from Trinity College Dublin with Primary and Master degrees in engineering and a Master in Business Administration from the Open University.
