Dr Peadar O Muircheartaigh, University of Edinburgh will deliver the keynote lecture for the Linguistics of the Gaelic Languages conference.

This lecture, which is the keynote lecture for the Linguistics of the Gaelic Languages conference will examine the form and function of the Gaelic language as used in a fascinating range of letters written by agents of the British Empire on its western and eastern frontiers during the 18th century: Scottish soldiers fighting during the American War of Independence and Scottish colonial administrators in the East India Company. The dynamics of language and Empire will be exposed and examined in an invited lecture from Dr Peadar Ó Muircheartaigh, an expert in manuscripts, letters and the Gaelic tradition.

About the conference

Comhdháil idirnáisiúnta ina gcuirfear teangeolaíocht Ghaeilge na hÉireann, na hAlban agus Mhanann faoi chaibidil.

Tiocfaidh scoláirí idirnáisiúnta na teangeolaíochta Gaeilge le chéile in Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann, ar an 8ú agus an 9ú Meitheamh 2023 chun an taighde is déanaí a chur faoi chaibidil faoi theangacha Gaelacha na n-oileán seo.
