We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Eve Daly

Dr Eve Daly holds a B. Sc. (Hons) in Physics and PhD Geophysics. She is a Lecturer in Earth and Ocean Sciences at NUI, Galway with expertise in geophysical remote sensing using terrestrial and airborne datasets with applications in Archaeology, Groundwater and Land management. She started her career in large scale geophysics applying gravity methods to study the crustal structure of offshore western Ireland but as a country and farming girl at heart has progressed closer to the near surface with several Hydro-geophysical and Agri-geophysical projects looking at using remote sensing data for soil classification, peatland mapping and soil moisture measurements. .
In fact this near surface zone is often called the “the critical zone” from the top of the trees to the bottom of the groundwater or ”Where Rock meets like” is proving very exciting especially with the advent of new advanced Earth Observation satellite based technologies and big data and machine learning tools.
