The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Step inside the Royal Irish Academy’s Georgian rooms and its splendid library this Culture Night

We have lots going on this year for Culture Night. Talks about the work of the Academy and the Library and its collections will take place throughout the evening. View our current exhibition celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Book of Fenagh. Learn about manuscripts and try some calligraphy with artist and historian Tim O' Neill. Try your hand at writing in Ogham. Discover the Irish Historic Towns Atlas project which traces the cartographic and topographic history of towns of Ireland from earliest times to c. 1900. Shop at special culture night prices in our pop-up shop. Chat to Dublin Community Radio, Near FM and enjoy live music.

Historian and calligrapher Tim O'Neill will give short talks on the making of medieval manuscripts at 5.30pm, 6.30pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
