THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

IADT

I am the Head of Faculty of Film Art & Creative Technologies at IADT in Dún Laoghaire. My faculty has a student cohort of over 1800+ full time and part time students studying all aspects of the screen and media arts.  Working with four heads of Department, I am responsible for all aspects of academic delivery, quality assurance, budget and administration and strategic development for the faculty.

I also lead the FilmEU project. Along with our international partners (Lusófona, Portugal; LUCA, Belgium and BFM, Estonia) we have been awarded funding by the HEA, Erasmus+ and Horizon funding to create FilmEU, the first European University of Film and Media Arts.

I am an active practitioner and researcher. My credits include all genres of television, radio and online; high end, award winning documentary films, international formats and some of the best-known and loved prime time programmes. The documentary 'Flann O'Brien: The Lives of Brian' which I co-wrote & produced was awarded the IFTA for best single documentary in 2007 and 'Connected', a twenty-part series I produced, won the IFTA for best Constructed Reality in 2015.
