The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Suzanne Egan

UCD

Dr Suzanne Egan is Associate Professor at the School of Law and founding Director of the UCD Centre for Human Rights (2015 – 2019). Suzanne was appointed by government to serve two terms as a Member of the Irish Human Rights Commission (from 2001-2011) and has been a Visiting Professor at De Paul Law School, Chicago, the University of Connecticut and a Visiting Fellow at Harvard Law School's Human Rights Program.  She is currently an honorary Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Bristol's, Human Rights Implementation Centre.  In 2017, Suzanne was awarded a Teaching Excellence Award by UCD for her sustained commitment to teaching excellence and student learning and a Higher Doctorate of Laws by the National University of Ireland for her published work in the field of international human rights law.
