The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Blanaid Clarke

Professor Blanaid Clarke holds the McCann FitzGerald Chair in Corporate Law at Trinity College Dublin. Her research interests include corporate law, governance, ethics, takeover regulation and financial services law and she has published extensively in these areas.  She is Deputy Chairman of the Irish Banking Culture Board and the Irish representative on the OECD’s Corporate Governance Committee. She is also a member of the European Securities and Markets Authority’s (ESMA’s) Takeover Bids Network, the Sustainable Market Actors Research Network and the European Model Company Act Group (EMCA). She is currently a Vice President of the Academic Board of the European Banking Institute. Previously, she was a member of the Irish Central Bank Commission (2010-2018), ESMA’s Securities Markets Stakeholder Group (2018-2020), the European Commission’s Informal Expert Group on Company Law (2014-2018) and its Reflection Group on the Future of EU Company Law (2010-2011).
