David Coyle

David Coyle is an Associate Professor with the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin, holding a PhD in Computer Science and undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His academic research and teaching focus on Human Computer Interaction and computing in healthcare. Over the past 15 years, he has been at the forefront of research on the design of technology to support mental health interventions and has significant experience in leading large projects. From 2016-2021 Dr Coyle was the Project Coordinator of the EU Horizon 2020 funded TEAM ITN project, an interdisciplinary research and training network which supported PhD training in Digital Mental Health. Over the past five years he has participated in several Health Service Executive task forces. He is a Funded Investigator with Insight, the national SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics and Adapt, the SFI Research Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology. Prior to joining the University College Dublin Dr Coyle was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol and Marie Curie Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Cambridge, working jointly with the Computer Laboratory and the Behavioural Neuroscience Institute. As an RIA committee member his focuses include interdisciplinary collaboration across committees, such as the Engineering and Computer Sciences and Life and Medical Sciences committees.
