We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

David Chew

David Chew is a Professor in Geology in Trinity College Dublin, who teaches in the fields of structural geology and tectonics.  Much of his research is the fields of geochronology and geochemistry, with diverse applications such as determining the evolution of ancient sediment routing systems, constraining the timing and evolution of ore systems, and constraining the growth and exhumation of mountain belts using a wide variety of modern analytical techniques.  He is on the editorial board of leading international geoscience journals (Geology, Chemical Geology), is a PI in the SFI iCRAG Research Centre in Applied Geosciences and has held several SFI personal grant awards.  He was Head of the Geology Department in Trinity College Dublin from 2017-2021.
