We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Originally from Dungannon, County Tyrone, I currently live in Belfast with my wife and two daughters. I am Chemistry graduate with a PhD at the interface of Physical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. I am currently a Lecturer in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Broadly my research has focused on catalysis for sustainability. My current role is more teaching focused, primarily Mathematics and Thermodynamics as well as Practical Skills though I also teach Safety and Chemical Processes. I am also engaged in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
I am actively involved in various Outreach and Public Engagement activities promoting Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Sustainability. These activities have included school visits, digital events, hosting visiting speakers as well as organizing conferences and exhibitions.
I am also a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and I am a Chartered Chemist and Chartered Scientist.
