The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Romina Gaburro

UL

Dr Romina Gaburro is a lecturer in applied mathematics at the University of Limerick (UL). She obtained an MSc (Italian Laura) in Mathematics from the Università degli Studi di Trieste, Italy and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK in 2004. Following her PhD, she worked as a Research Fellow at the Università degli Studi di Trieste and as a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at UL, funded by Science Foundation Ireland. Dr Gaburro's research area is in inverse problems, partial differential equations and their applications to imaging and material properties identification. She is co-leading the inverse problems group in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UL, where she is supervising several PhD students. Dr Gaburro is a committee member of the Irish Mathematical Society, a member of the Health Research Institute at UL and a funded investigator of CONFIRM, the SFI centre for smart manufacturing at UL. Dr Gaburro is also the country coordinator for Ireland in the European Women in Mathematics (EWM) organisation and the Irish ambassador for the International Mathematical Union (IMU) Committee for Women in Mathematics. Dr Gaburro has co-organised several scientific events on inverse problems, including the recent ‘International Summer School on Inverse Problems in Geophysics’ at the Lake Como School of Advanced Studies in 2021 and the semester programme ‘Rich and Nonlinear Tomography: a multidisciplinary approach’ at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge, in the Spring 2023.
