The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Autumn Archaeology Grants schemes open

Archaeology Research Excavation Grants,  Archaeology Legacy projects and Directed Archaeological Research for World Heritage Sites Schemes now open for applications.

Archaeology Research Excavation Grants

Together with the National Monuments Service the Royal Irish Academy welcomes applications for independent research excavations in the Republic of Ireland.

The Archaeology Research Excavation Grants scheme 2022/2023 opens on 9 September and will close on 21 October 2022. For further details and to apply click here

Archaeology Legacy Projects

Together with the National Monuments Service the Royal Irish Academy welcomes applications for post-excavation research for Archaeological Research Excavations which were previously funded by the Royal Irish Academy and whose RIA excavation funding ended at least five years ago.

The Archaeology Legacy Projects Grants scheme 2022/2023 opens on 9 September and will close on 21 October 2022. For further details and to apply click here

Directed Archaeological Research for World Heritage Sites

Together with the National Monuments Service the Royal Irish Academy welcomes applications from those working on the archaeology of the Brú na Bóinne and Sceilig Mhichíl World Heritage Sites to seek funding for non-destructive work.
