The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Maria Roca Lizarazu

Literary and Cultural Studies Scholar University of Galway

Maria Roca Lizarazu is a literary and cultural studies scholar focusing on cultural memory, critical utopias, minority cultures and migration in the contemporary German-language context. She has a keen interest in creative methods and arts-based collaborations and has worked with arts and community organisations in Birmingham and Galway. At present, Maria is a postdoctoral researcher in Creative Futures at the University of Galway, exploring literary engagements with co-existence and citizenship in present-day Germany. After her PhD in German Studies at the University of Warwick, Maria held a Sylvia Naish Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute of Modern Languages Research (now ILCS), London and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Birmingham.
