The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Kieran Walsh

Deputy Director of HTA, HIQA & Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer School of Pharmacy, UCC

Kieran Walsh is a Deputy Director of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) and an Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy in University College Cork (UCC). He oversees the Strategy, Support and Research Function within the HTA Directorate with the overarching aim of supporting the provision of evidence-based advice to national policy- and decision-makers in the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health. Kieran is a registered pharmacist with experience in community, hospital and clinical trial settings. He undertook his PhD in UCC, between 2014 and 2018, on the topic of antipsychotic prescribing to nursing home residents with dementia. He has a strong research profile and has won several national awards for his work including the HSE Open Access Research Awards and the Royal Academy of Medicine (RAMI) Awards.
