THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

New Member: Roscommon County Council

30 March 2023

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is delighted to announce that Roscommon County Council has joined as our latest member.

Roscommon County Council is the eleventh local authority to join DRI.

Sandra Turner, Roscommon County Librarian said:

Roscommon County Council Library Service holds and manages local history and primary source material related to the county of Roscommon which is not available in any other library or archive. Access to our archival material is provided online through our website, our Library archive in the County Library, Roscommon and through our county-wide branch network. Our regular updates on our collections on social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, have proved to be our most popular content at home and abroad and this interest and engagement have been replicated in attendance at in-person events organised to promote the online content and in-house seminars. We are delighted to join DRI and membership will provide us with long term preservation and increased public exposure to this material.

DRI Interim Director Lisa Griffith added:

We are delighted to welcome Roscommon County Council Library Service and to help them preserve their unique, and regionally significant collections. They have an established national and international audience for their collections which they share through their website and social media. In adding their material to DRI, Roscommon Library services share it alongside other local authorities and national collections, allowing Repository users to unlock the overlapping themes and events contained within these sources.

They join a growing number of local authorities who are providing access and long-term preservation for collections through membership of DRI. Visit our membership page to learn more about DRI membership opportunities. We provide regular updates on collection publications on our Twitter page and you can also follow us on Instagram to uncover more treasures in the Repository.
