This research report from 1990 considers the prominence of languages in second level school curricula. It reveals that, despite improvements in foreign language participation in Ireland, many Irish schools still do not regard languages as core subjects. Mary Ruane scrutinizes the provision pattern of languages in the second-level sector, and presents policy-makers with a clear agenda for an effective foreign language teaching programme.
