The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Ruth Hegarty

Managing Editor of Publications, Staff representative on Executive Committee

Ruth Hegarty is Managing Editor of the Royal Irish Academy’s publishing house. 

In 2006 she established the Prism imprint of the RIA which produces beautiful accessible books that encourage readers to return to the primary source and are rooted in scholarship. Books include A history of Ireland in 100 words, the ‘Judging’ series, Dublin 1911 and A history of Ireland in 100 objects. She is a member of the Expert Working Group for the public history project Grangegorman Histories.
