This week’s artwork, Sheela-na-Gig by Barrie Cooke features in Vol IV: ‘Twentieth Century’ of Art and Architecture of Ireland
The artworks, created by Cooke around the 1960’s, are inspired by medieval fertility stone carvings found in parts of Ireland and Britain.
‘The uninhibited women in the painter’s work spoke of the same sexual freedom heralded by the arrival of The Beatles and the end of the ban on ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’
