The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Diarmuid Torney

DCU

Dr Diarmuid Torney Assistant Professor in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University. HIs research focuses on comparative and global politics of climate change, environment, and energy, particularly in Ireland, the European Union, China, and India. He is currently Principal Investigator on the Irish Climate Policy Evaluation project, an 18-month project evaluating Ireland’s policy response to climate change since 1996, and co-Principal Investigator (with Prof. Pat Brereton) on the Citizens' Climate research project, a 10-month project examining deliberative democracy and citizen engagement in climate change policymaking in Ireland. Both projects are funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency  I was central to the establishment of, and teach on, DCU’s new MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society.
