Winners of the 2016 US-Ireland Research Innovation Awards

The winners of the 2016 US-Ireland Research Innovation Awards were announced on Friday 20 May at the American Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin. The event was attended by Mary Mitchell-O’Connor TD, newly- appointed Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, leading members of the Irish/US corporate sector, representatives of Ireland leading Higher Education Institutes and Research Centre along with leading academics including the President and Officers of the Royal Irish Academy.  

The awards are jointly presented by the Royal Irish Academy and the American Chamber of Commerce to recognise excellence in research innovation across three categories:

• An Irish SME/Start Up with US links
• An Irish Higher Education Institute or Research Centre with US links
• The Irish operations of a US Multi-National Corporation  

Econiq

The winners of the 2016 US-Ireland Research Innovation Award for an Irish SME/Start Up with US links

Econiq Limited is headquartered in Galway and its Boston subsidiary (Econiq Inc.) handles US sales and customer research with a total of 23 staff.

Their winning research innovation, ‘The Conversation Hub’ uses a colour-coding technique to guide complex business conversations and capture intelligence for continuous value.

University College Dublin

The winners of the 2016 US-Ireland Research Innovation Award for an Irish Higher Education Institute or Research Centre with US links

As Ireland's largest university, UCD embraces its role to contribute to the flourishing of Ireland; through the study and discussion of people, society, business, economy, culture, languages and the creative arts, as well as through research and innovation. The winning research innovation is UCD and IBM’s Real Time Correlation Engine. RTCE uses novel data normalisation, clustering and filtering techniques to predict problems and enable rapid response in big data systems.
