The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Youghal Celebrates History focused on the Irish Historic Towns Atlas for this year's conference. 

This year's theme of Youghal Celebrates History was 'Youghal through the ages: discover the hidden layers of history' and focussed on the recent publication Irish Historic Towns Atlas, no. 27 Youghal by David Kelly and Tadhg O'Keeffe. Speakers included both Youghal authors as well as IHTA editors Howard Clarke and Anngret Simms, the cartographic editor Sarah Gearty and author of IHTA New Ross, Linda Doran.
