The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

A free public joint lecture by Jacinta Prunty and Paul Walsh to celebrate the launch of IHTA no. 28 Galway/Gaillimh.

Jacinta Prunty and Paul Walsh, authors of Irish Historic Towns Atlas no. 28, Galway/Gaillimh, will celebrate the official launch of the atlas with a free public lecture in St Nicholas's Collegiate Church, Galway, on Tuesday 1 November 2016 at 6.30pm. The authors will highlight aspects of their research on the complicated and fascinating history of Galway. The lecture will be illustrated by some of the beautiful maps and images that accompany the atlas. 

The event is hosted by the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society and the new Galway/Gaillimh atlas will be on sale at the lecture for a special price.
