James Caulfeild

Named in honour of the Academy’s first president, James Caulfeild, the first Earl of Charlemont (1728-99), these grants facilitate short international visits for early career researchers in the sciences, humanities and social sciences to pursue primary research and/or training. In 2017, the Academy will award 23 Charlemont grants.

Charlemont Scholars

From connections between the legends of Irish and Icelandic Fairy folklore (The University of Iceland), to molecular ecology developments in slug control (Oregon State University), biomedical research in cardiovascular regeneration (Stuttgart, Germany) and strides in healthcare studies on the nature of pain and suffering (Tel Aviv University), the 2017 class of Charlemont Scholars will journey near and far on foot of their international travel grant awards.
