Colin Bray and Eamonn Doyle launch the Digital Atlas of Galway
Colin Bray (OSi) and Eamonn Doyle (Esri Ireland) officially launched the Digital Atlas of Galway in a Geographical Information System (GIS) on Friday 19 May 2017. The project, in collaboration with OSi, Maynooth University and the Irish Research Council, has over 180 sites digitised from the Irish Historic Towns Atlas, no. 28 Galway/Gaillimh by Jacinta Prunty and Paul Walsh (Royal Irish Academy, 2016). Historic map layers can be viewed along with the reconstructed town plan of Galway, 1839, as the key map for the GIS. More maps and sites will be added to the Digital Atlas of Galway over the coming months. It joins the Digital Atlas of Derry~Londonderry that was produced in 2013.
