THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Join us at the Irish Arts Festival in London

This year's London Irish Arts Festival will take place at the London Irish Centre the weekend of 22-23 July. We will be presenting our upcoming titles on Sunday, as part of the Read Books from Ireland campaign. Read Books from Ireland is an initiative of Books Ireland and Publishing Ireland promoting books by Irish publishers.

Join us for an opening reception at 18.00 on Saturday, 22 July and get ready for a busy Sunday.

The programme will be announced soon and there is sure to be something for everyone: historians Ronan McGreevy will talk about the poet and Irish nationalist Francis Ledwidge while Marian Broderick will tell us stories of ‘Wild Irish Women’; there will be an Irish Crime Fiction panel with Julie Parsons, Sheila Bulger and Sam Blake, and a cookery demo and healthy eating advice from Chef Adrian Martin. For the children’s programme, the CBI Book Doctor will be in residence to prescribe some brilliant reading suggestions. Children’s author and illustrator Alan Nolan will host some illustration workshops and Gráinne Clear will tell stories of Irish folklore, mythology and history for young listeners. Check the London Irish Centre’s website to find out more and to book your tickets.
