Ar aon dul leis an gcleachtas idirnáisiúnta is fearr, beidh corpas digiteach teanga mar bhunús le haghaidh an foclóir a chruthú, agus anuas air sin beidh an corpas sin mar áis shárluachmhar don taighde sa teangeolaíocht agus sa litríocht idir chomhaimseartha agus stairiúil. Go nuige seo, foilsíodh dréachtchorpas ar líne ina bhfuil ábhar a fhad leis an bhliain 1926, agus uirlisí saindeartha cuardaigh ann, chomh maith le fochorpais spéisiúla.
Chomh maith leis an chorpas mhór stairiúil a bhailchríochnú agus a oiriúnú le haghaidh obair na foclóireachta, tá céimeanna eile á dtionscnamh anois ag foireann eagarthóireachta an tionscadail, mar atá a leanas: corpas cuimsitheach den ábhar béil a chur i dtoll a chéile a dhéanfaidh ionadaíocht chruinn chuimsitheach ar an teanga labhartha, agus é a chur in oiriúint don fhoclóireacht; nasc agus idiroibritheacht a chruthú le foclóir Sean- agus Meán-Ghaeilge an Acadaimh, Dictionary of the Irish Language, Based Mainly on Old and Middle Irish Materials (1976) agus a chomharba digiteach, eDIL (2019), mar aon le corpais eile Gaeilge atá ann nó atá i mbéal forbartha, lena chinntiú go mbeidh leanúnachas ann maidir le foclóireacht údarásach na teanga isteach i dtréimhse na Nua-Ghaeilge; forbairt agus oiriúnú a dhéanamh ar phróiseáil theicniúil an ábhair, agus ar chur i láthair an ábhair sin ar an ghréasán, lena n-áirítear bogearraí scríofa foclóra a aimsiú a bheidh oiriúnach; iontrálacha foclóra a dhréachtadh, bunaithe ar an chorpas dhigiteach chríochnaithe.
In keeping with international best practice, a representative digital corpus of literary material will facilitate the assembly of the dictionary and will provide, in addition, an invaluable tool for research in linguistics and literary studies. To date, a draft digital corpus to the year 1926 has been published online, with in-built search tools, as have several discrete subcorpora.
Alongside the ongoing completion and refinement of the larger historical corpus, the upcoming phases of editorial work will consist of a number of critical strands, including: the assembly of a distinct corpus of oral material for the dictionary comprehensively representative of the dialects of Irish and tailored for lexicography; building on, and linking with the Academy’s existing Dictionary of the Irish Language, Based Mainly on Old and Middle Irish Materials (1976), and its digitised and revised version eDIL (2019), and other corpora of Middle and Early Modern Irish, both existing and under development, to ensure continuity of linguistic coverage into the modern period; developing and modifying the technical processing and web-based presentation of the project’s material, comprising the adoption of dictionary-writing software; the compilation of dictionary entries, deriving from the completed digital corpus.
