The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Join us for a roundtable, a keynote lecture by Fintan O'Toole, and an exhibition of Judging Shaw

Judging Shaw is the title of both an exhibition produced by the Royal Irish Academy and the National University of Ireland at Galway and a new biography by the renowned journalist and literary scholar Fintan O’Toole. To mark both book and exhibition, Irish and US scholars will discuss the life, work, politics, celebrity, and legacy of George Bernard Shaw.  

4.00-5.30 p.m. Roundtable: 'Shaw, our contemporary?' Participants include Catriona Crowe (chair), Ruth Hegarty, Barry Houlihan, Lucy McDiarmid, Adrian Paterson, and Keri Walsh.  

6.15-7.30 p.m. Keynote Lecture: 'GBS Versus Ireland: Bernard Shaw and Irish Nationalism' by Fintan O’Toole.
