The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Ciara Brett

Cork City Council

Ciara Brett has worked in the Strategic Economic Development Directorate of Cork City Council as City Archaeologist since 2005. A graduate of University College Cork (BA (Hons) Archaeology 1999 and MA (Archaeology) 2000) Ciara has worked on a broad range of projects, as a licensed archaeologist, including excavations in the medieval city of Cork. Before joining Cork City Council, she worked in private consultancy.
 Her particular interest is in urban archaeology and the role of archaeology in the planning system. Ciara frequently lectures on the topic of urban archaeological practice and is a member of the Local Authority Archaeologists Network (LAAN). 
Edited publications include Cork City’s Burial Places and Archaeological Excavations at the South Main Street, Cork 2003-2005.
She has served on the Board of the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland (IAI) and is currently Vice-President of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society.
