Frances Ruane MRIA Masterclass

In what was a very informative session moderated by Dr Michelle Cullen (Head of Inclusion & Diversity, Accenture Ireland) Frances shared her experiences, philosophies and tips from her career sparking great discussion and sharing of ideas and opinions. Michelle did a great job of moderating which gave everyone a chance to participate in the discussion. Frances advised participants to mentor and help other women in their careers, seeking a mentor even at a senior level is not a sign of weakness it is a positive experience; use friends outside your organisation to help you get clarity yourself; get headspace - either take a break or do a short course and finally be patient as change takes a long time.

Speaker Biography

Frances Ruane was elected as a Member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2003. She is an academic economist and former director of the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin, Ireland 2006−2015. In 2017, she was named chair of the board at the Abbey Theatre.

Frances is an honorary professor of economics at Trinity College Dublin. She has also lectured in economics at the University of Oxford where she had previously received her PhD.

Frances has been a board member of the National Board for Science and Technology; an authority member of the Industrial Development Authority; a board member of Forfás; chair of the National Statistics Board; and the Policy Institute at Trinity College Dublin.Frances’ research area has been in applied microeconomic analysis, with a strong relevance to the major issues of debate in western economies, where government policy may have a role in intervening in the process of change.
