Call for nominations: All European Academies Madame de Staël Prize for Cultural Values 2019

ALLEA are currently accepting nominations for the 2019 All European Academies Madame de Staël Prize for Cultural Values. In its sixth edition, European Academies will be honouring an outstanding scholar or intellectual whose work has enriched our understanding of the European cultural identity and values.The ALLEA Prize is endowed with 20,000 euros, one of the largest amounts dedicated to honouring scholars in the social sciences and humanties in Europe. It will be awarded at the next General Assembly in Bern, Switzerland on 8 May 2019.
Since its establishment in 2014, the Madame de Staël Prize is awarded to eminent scholars and intellectuals whose work represents a significant contribution to the cultural values of Europe and to the idea of European integration, thereby promoting and strengthening an understanding of Europe as multifaceted, intellectual, open and vibrant. The prize also seeks to underline the importance of non-technological scholarly work and research for European advancement.
Laureates are well known for their scholarly and intellectual excellence in any field in the social sciences and the humanities, including those with connections to other scientific disciplines. A laureate’s work may also be of interdisciplinary nature and must represent a major contribution to the understanding of the existing and emerging common values of Europe, and the processes behind European integration and identity.

Nominations should include a 1-2 page letter demonstrating why the nominee matches the above criteria and should be accompanied by an updated CV of the candidate. Suggestions for potential reviewers of the candidate´s scholarly work are also welcome.
