THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Royal Irish Academy joins Digital Repository of Ireland under new membership model

20 September 2018

As one of DRI’s core consortium organisations, the RIA has been closely involved with DRI’s development since 2011 and collections from the Academy Library and Publications departments have been deposited in the Repository over the last number of years.

The Digital Repository of Ireland is delighted to announce the Royal Irish Academy as our latest member under the Membership Model, launched in February 2018.

Dr. Natalie Harrower, Director of the DRI, said:

“We are very pleased to welcome the Royal Irish Academy as our latest members. The Academy has been a key institution in DRI’s development, and we look forward to working more closely with staff in the Academy’s impressive research projects, Library, and Publications house. The collections and research data held by the Academy are broad reaching and make a significant scholarly imprint in Ireland and internationally. We hope to assist the Academy in preserving these digital objects, and expanding their reach and accessibility.”

Ruth Hegarty, Managing Editor of RIA Publications, said:

“Our membership of DRI has allowed us to make our research available to everyone for free: we have just added our publication Debating Austerity to mark the 10th anniversary of the banking guarantee and I look forward to building up the collection over the coming years.”

Librarian Siobhan Fitzpatrick added:

"The DRI has enabled the Library to make significant contributions to the digital cultural heritage resource for Ireland, an example being our contribution to the 1916 commemorative digital databank. We embrace the opening up of collections to all via the web and look forward to developing this resource while ensuring its long term preservation over the coming years".
