16 October 2018

A prestigious recognition as he is one of only sixteen foreign members elected to the US National Academy of Engineering this year.

Election to the US National Academy of Engineering is considered among the highest professional distinctions for an engineer and is limited to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice or education. There are 2,293 members in the academy, only 262 are from foreign countries. O’Malley was singled out “for contributions to the integration of wind generation resources into the electric grid.” The formal induction ceremony was held in Washington, D.C. at the end of September.

Mark O'Malley who has been a member of the Royal Irish Academy since 2008 said “I am thrilled and honoured at this recognition, I want to acknowledge the great support I have had from my colleagues at NREL and in Ireland, and globally in academia and industry, and in particular Professor Annraoi de Paor MRIA and the late Professor Tom Brazil MRIA, may he rest in peace.
