This one-day conference, produced in partnership with the Houses of the Oireachtas, is being held to mark the 100th anniversary of Dáil Éireann.
The conference is being held during the week of the 100th anniversary of the 14 December 1918 general election. It will commence the Irish Government’s programme of events to commemorate 100 years of Dáil Éireann, which first sat in the Mansion House on 21 January 1919.
Morning panel discussions will be chaired by Stephen Collins and Olivia O’Leary. They will each chair discussions with academic panellists who have an expertise in government, politics and history. Panel discussions will cover the origins, consolidation, evolution and development of Dáil Éireann.
Later, there will be discussions with politicians on recent innovations in the Dáil and its future, heading into its second century.
Finally, members of the media will discuss contemporary public perceptions of Dáil Éireann.
Mary E. Daly, MRIA will provide the conference closing remarks which will be followed by a reception.
There will be two new research resources on display, produced in partnership:
- The National Archives of Ireland and the Houses of the Oireachtas-a project to digitise the complete holdings of the DE/2 and DE/4 collections.
- The Oireachtas Library and the University of Limerick-a web-based bibliography of the Houses of the Oireachtas. This new resource is a searchable list of authoritative works relevant to the first 100 years of parliamentary self-government in Ireland.
This conference will be audiovsually recorded by Houses of Oireachtas Commission for broadcast. Your understanding around the conditions which obtain in relation to the audiovisual recording of this event will be sought during the booking process.
