Consultation Forum on Heritage Ireland 2030 in conjunction with the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
20 February 2019The RIA and DCHG recently held a consultation forum at Academy House
The importance of education and community and local leadership in heritage, the need to understand and support tangible and intangible forms of heritage, and to build understanding of heritage objectives and values across national planning and policy frameworks emerged as key themes from the lively discussions at the RIA-Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht consultation forum in January 2019. The discussion did not shy away from the risks facing Ireland's heritage: fragmentation in policymaking and the need to "heritage proof" climate action and planning policies emerged particularly strongly.
The Forum Chair Dr. Mary Canning, Senior Vice-President, RIA expertly steered the discussions to encourage participants to focus on the objectives, actions and policy tools needed to secure the many ambitions expressed for Ireland’s future heritage strategy. The diversity of attendees itself proved the diversity and importance of heritage policy and practice across Irish society and the benefit of a broad, inclusive approach to policy-making in this area. The Academy intends to hold further such forums in the future. For more information please contact policy@ria.ie
