The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

'Dáil Éireann: the first 100 years, 1919–2019'

This one-day conference held on 11 December 2018 produced in partnership with the Houses of the Oireachtas to mark the 100th anniversary of Dáil Éireann is is now available to watch online.

The conference was held during the week of the 100th anniversary of the 14 December 1918 general election and was produced in partnership with the Houses of the Oireachtas.

Please view the programme here.  Morning panel discussions were chaired by Stephen Collins and Olivia O’Leary who both chaired panellists of academics with expertise in government, politics and history. Panel discussions covered the origins, consolidation, evolution and development of Dáil Éireann.

Later, there were discussions with politicians on recent innovations in the Dáil and its future, heading into its second century.

Finally, members of the media discussed contemporary public perceptions of Dáil Éireann.
