Engineering and Computing Academy Early Career Profile Blog

08 May 2019

Applications are now open for the 2019 Engineering and Computer Science Early Career Profile Blog.

Engineering and Computer Scientist profile blog series

Are you an early career engineer or computer scientist? Are you using your Engineering or Computer Science degree in an innovative or creative way?

The Engineering and Computer Sciences Committee of the Royal Irish Academy is inviting applications and nominations for their early career profile blog series.

The committee wishes to identify candidates who are applying their undergraduate degrees in interesting and novel ways. Engineering and Computer Science give students the tools to innovate on many wide ranging industries from finance to journalism, from fashion to medicine. If you or someone you know is doing this we would like to hear your story for a profile series to show and inspire younger audiences on just how many directions your degree can take you.

We are looking for people from a wide range of disciplines including but not limited to: history, finance, medicine, bio-medicine, fashion, music, law architecture, politics, journalism and the environment. We are interested in people who graduated from their undergraduate degree within the last 5 years and are now working in industry or have carried on in post-graduate research.

Call For Nominations and Applications

If you are interested in applying, please complete the online application form.  The closing date is Friday 14 June 2019

You will be asked to provide:

  • Your current title and employer
  • What degree you did, when and where
  • A brief outline of what you do and the industry you are working in and how your computer science or engineering degree is being used with three/four slides
  • Additional uploaded materials (as appropriate)

Applications are sought from academics and researchers as well as engineers/computer scientists working in industry or other enterprises based on the island of Ireland.

Selection Process

There will be a two-stage selection process. An initial review will identify a small number of candidates who will be invited for an interview to share their experiences and discuss their role in greater detail. Applications and nominations will be judged based on novelty of the application area in which engineering/CS degree is applied and current and potential impact of the candidate’s work, so we ask the candidates to emphasise this in their application material.

The blog series will be published on the Academy’s website.
