The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Member Profile: Fionnuala Ní Aoláin

Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, a world leading scholar and practitioner in fields of law, political science and public policy, was admitted as an Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy on 24 May 2019.

Professor Ní Aoláin is a Regents’ Professor at the University of Minnesota. She is a world-leading scholar and practitioner in the fields of law, political science and public policy, whose expertise has been recognised by, amongst many others, the European Commission, the United Nations Human Rights Council, and the International Criminal Court. Most recently, she co-edited the Oxford handbook of gender and conflict (Oxford University Press, 2018).
