The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Professor Yvonne Buckley who has made world-leading advances in population ecology was admitted as a Member of the Royal Irish Academy on 24 May 2019.

Yvonne Buckley is professor of Zoology at Trinity College Dublin. She has made world-leading advances in population ecology, with applications in conservation and invasive species management. She received an IRC Laureate award for the project THRIVE, which aims to determine how plant populations persist in a changing world. She was named as a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher for 2018, indicating her exceptional academic impact.
