We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

This Heritage Week take a tour of the Royal Irish Academy and learn about the dedicated collectors of past times who helped build up its unique Library collections. 

These tours will walk you through the Georgian rooms of Academy House and its nineteenth-century Reading Room and Meeting Room. You will learn about some of the bibliophiles and scholars who spent their time collecting books and manuscripts, which are now part of the Library’s collections. Was it pure research, a Victorian pastime or a bibliophile’s obsession?
