21 June 2019Fearghal McGarry, modern Irish historian was admitted as a Member of the Royal Irish Academy on 24 May 2019.
Fearghal McGarry is professor of Modern Irish History at Queen’s University Belfast. He has become a distinctive and authoritative voice in the history of revolutionary and post-revolutionary Ireland, in books that have reached both an academic audience and a wider public. He is also an active exponent of public history, at a time when issues of commemoration and memorialisation are of central importance to our society.
